The
Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad that is also called
IIIT Allahabad was established in 1999, as a center of excellence in
Information Technology and Computer Science by Government of India. This
institution was established in order to churn out enough graduates to
meet the demand of software engineers that was increasing rapidly due to
IT boom in US and Europe. A year later, in the year 2000, IIIT Allahabad
was conferred with the "Deemed University". The Institute thus
became empowered to have a perpetual seal and award degrees subsequent
to the conduct of its own examinations.
The campus of IIIT Allahabad is situated at Jhalwa in the outskirts of
Allahabad. The campus is spread in a sprawling 100 acres land near Dev
Ghat. The architecture of this institution is unique in itself. In a
serious deviation from the established pattern, the design is
contemporary in nature and makes a statement about the similarities
between atoms and bits. Instead of the traditional geometric lines, the
campus and other buildings have been styled on patterns developed by
internationally acclaimed scholar and mathematician, Roger Penrose.
Presently IIIT Allahabad offers in only two subjects Information
Technology and Cyber Law. These are offered at both Graduate and
Post-Graduate levels both. A new course named Master of Science (MS) in
Cyber Law & Information Security has been introduced that is one of
its kinds in India.
