Tamil Nadu famous for its pilgrim centres like Palani, Tiruchender , Kumbakonam , Thanjavur, Kanyakuari and many other places witnessed a huge influx of visitors in the month of April and May due to which the state’s revenue has increased by 30 per cent. The state tourism department’s statistics revealed that most visitors chose pilgrimages over other popular summer destinations such as Udhagamandalam, Kodaikanal, Yercaud and Yelagiri in April, this year.
While Palani city received 6, 15,236 visitors, Kanyakumari district on the other hand received 6, 12,536 visitors, which is more than the number of domestic tourists who visited Kodaikanal. The summer fair (‘kodai tiruvizha’) organized by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) at Island Grounds in Chennai also saw more than 5 lakh tourists.
