Rohtang Tunnel to be built under the Rohtang Pass in Leh-Manali, Himachal Pradesh will be completed by February 2015. The construction work of Rs. 1,458 crore project providing all-weather links between Manali and tribal Lahaul valley would commence in the first week of June, this year.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said that the Kullu-Manali Valley was universally acknowledged as the best tourist destination where large numbers of visitors throng the place round the year. He said that with the construction of tunnel, tourists would be able to travel further into the far virgin valley of Lahaul.
The proposed tunnel project would not only connect the cut-off valley with year-round connectivity and enhance the socio-economic development of the state but will also reduce travelling distance to Keylong by 46 kms. Similarly, 2 more tunnels will be constructed in the State on Hindustan Tibet Road and on Darcha-Shinkola road.
