In a move to attract a large chunk of affluent tourists to state, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has plans to set up five-star luxurious hotels for the first time in the hill state. As per plan Shimla, Manali, Chail and Kasauli could each get an HPTDC five-star property.
The state government has given its nod to HPTDC on this matter and further discussions on building these hotels will take place at a board meeting of HPTDC. The meeting is to be held soon. Some sources told that the state government was already in the process of getting private parties to invest in this ambitious expansion program.
The state houses some finest and most popular resort towns of North India such as Shimla and Manali, while Chail and Kasauli also attract tourists in large numbers. HPTDC currently has over fifty hotels across Himachal Pradesh located in some of the best locations and a few of these are inside some heritage sites. But despite all these the most luxurious HPTDC hotels currently are only three-star.
