The Kolkata airport terminal, scheduled for completion in 2012, will soon be a glitzy place to wine and dine, what with the construction of a mega mall, a huge convention centre and two star-hotel towers. The terminal is undergoing modernization under an up-gradation project worth 2000 crores. The iconic seven-story airport hotel will be pulled down to pave way for the new constructions.
The construction project has been bagged by Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group, which will begin construction on the 300-crore facility shortly. One of the hotel towers will have 250 rooms and the other will have 100 budget rooms, specially designed for business travelers. The hotels will have specialty restaurants, 24-hour cafeteria, swimming pool, health club and spa, business centre and conference facilities.
The DS group also runs a luxury resort in Nainital, by the name of Manu Maharani and is constructing four other properties in India. According to a DS group spokesperson, the Kolkata airport project will be started within 6 months, after receiving the statutory clearances and it will get completed by 2012. The group will try to synchronize the construction work with the ongoing work at the Airport terminal.
