Himachal Pradesh, the valley of gods was declared as India’s Best Summer Destination by the Outlook Group of Publications on May 13th. A trophy was presented on behalf of the Group to Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, by Smt. Manisha Nanda, Principal Secretary, Tourism and Dr. Arun Sharma, Director of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Himachal Pradesh is a home to heavenly places like Kullu valley, Shimla, Dalhousie, Chamba, and many more. The State had witnessed 1.14 crore visitors during the previous financial year 2009-10 which was 17 percent more than the tourists who visited Himachal Pradesh during 2008-09.
The State is expecting 23 percent more tourists this year and is encouraging the travelers to spend their holidays in the pollution free and peaceful environment to get re-energized. Prof. Dhumal said that the State Government was also contemplating upon a scheme to organize a competition for adjudgement of best clean town in the State which would be based upon the observations made by the people who visit the town, through an independent survey to be conducted by an independent body.
