Dera ki Gali, a new eco- tourism spot in Poonch district was inaugurated by Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to promote tourism. The eco tourism development project developed by the forest department lays strong emphasis on going green and will be using environment-friendly materials so that the ecological balance of the area is maintained.
“We are using solar panels for electricity that is true eco-tourism. There is a difference between tourism and eco-tourism. There are people around the world who want to come to such places where there is no electricity,” added Abdullah. The Minister also laid the foundation of the tracks and walkways in the area.
Dera ki Gali is a pass connecting the Rajouri and Poonch districts of the state. The eco- tourism place will be publicized by the government through print and electronic media and it targets all the tourists who come from Srinagar and visit Shahdara-e- Sharif, one of the most popular holy places in Jammu.
