The Mysore Airport inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, finally opened its doors on May 15th. The new airport with the runway length of 1,740 metres and a width of 30 metres, can handle short-haul flights with the capacity of 60-70 passengers.
The construction of the airport though was completed last year; the inauguration got delayed due to various other reasons. The new airport is constructed at a cost of Rs 60 crore by Airport Authority of India (AAI).The flight services were introduced on the inauguration day itself, however, it is still not yet confirmed when exactly the flight services will commence.
The Chief Minister said that with the ever increasing tourist flow in Mysore and location of such an important enterprises like Infosys, which has an intake of 15,000 trainees from across the globe, the Mysore Airport has a good passenger potential.
