In order to enhance the communication links of the tourists and locals, the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have started restoration work on the historical 'Ashai Bagh Bridge' situated over the famous Nigeen and Dal Lake.
The decision to reconstruct the bridge has been undertaken by the Jammu and Kashmir government to avoid traffic jams and not to keep the tourists and locals stranded for a long time. The J&K authorities have claimed that the bridge would be open for road users over the next 3 to 4 days as the upgradation work of the road is almost nearing completion.
"It is a very important bridge as it connects to Hazratbal Shrine, Shalimar Bagh, Zakura, Lal Bazar, Elahi Bagh, and all the major destinations and because of which there is a lot of traffic jam," said Parvez Ahmad, Junior Engineer with the Roads and Buildings Department, Jammu and Kashmir. Once the bridge becomes operational, it will enable students of state-run Kashmir University and colleges to commute without any hassles.
While Dal Lake which is frequently haunted by many tourists boasts of interesting spots like Shankaracharya temple, Hari Parbat, Hazratbal Shrine among others, the Nigeen Lake surrounded by snow-clad mountains is considered as the second most beautiful lake after Dal Lake.
