Batalik, a part of Indian Administered kashmir that witnessed intense battle between Pakistani intruders and Indian army during 1999 Kargil war was recently opened to visitors with a three-day tourists fair in Dard Tribal area of Darchaks. The fair was conducted by the state tourism department, J&K to attract tourists to Batalik.
Kachoo Ahmad Ali, Chief Executive, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, said that the opening of Batalik, located at a height of about 2,000 feet to tourists would create job opportunities to the youth.
Ghulam Hassan Khan, a Lok Sabha member from Ladakh besides allotting a sum of Rs 2.50 lakh from his Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund for preserving heritage spots of the area, has also asked all the local people of Batalik to convert their homes into guest houses to facilitate the tourists.
