The Malaysia government has decided to restore the visa-free transit facility for Indian nationals from July 1st to benefit the travellers and also to boost tourist inflow from India. The facility has also been extended to the nationals of 3 other countries namely Bangladesh, Pakistan and Srilanka.
Deputy Prime Minister, Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin said that the facility extended to India and 3 other countries would benefit Malaysia's tourism industry. "At one time, we had it (the visa-free transit facility) but it was withdrawn for certain reasons” Yassin added.
The decision was taken after chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Tourism, on May 24th, where even Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen was present. The government feels that the decision would help the country’s tourism.
