Malaysia has been ranked by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as the 9th most travelled destination in the world last year. Though the year 2009 gave a tough time to the tourism globally, Malaysia witnessed an upsurge in the tourist arrivals and remained completely unaffected. Malaysia tourism industry contributed RM1 billon per week to the economy providing employment to over 1 million Malaysians in the year 2009.
“It is the government's commitment to ensure that the Malaysian tourism industry continues to flourish and to provide the best tourism experience to tourists from all over the world," said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.
