The Indian Railways is planning to launch 2 freight corridors—one from Delhi to Mumbai and another from Delhi to Kolkata. The Minister of State for Railways , KH Muniyappa announced this decision on May 21st. Parallel freight corridors are being planned as the freight have always been an important source of earning for the Railways.
While the western corridor from Delhi to Mumbai will cost Rs 26,000 crore, the eastern corridor from Delhi to Kolkata will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 24,000 crore. The separate passenger corridors — from Delhi to Mumbai and from Delhi to Kolkata — are also being created.
