Dubai’s 3 new metro stations - World Trade Centre Station, GGICO Station (Al Garhoud) and Noor Islamic Bank Station (Al Quoz) opened on May 15th. The stations will join the 18 stations that currently operate on the Red Line, making the total tally of operational stations to 21.The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to open another 8 stations on the Red Line before the end of 2010.
“We open stations depending on the development around them. Each of the three new stations are located in key areas and are expected to serve a large number of people,” said Ramadan Mohammed Abdullah, Director of Rail Operations at RTA.
Noor Islamic Bank Station which was previously known as Al Quoz Sation on Shaikh Zayed Road is expected to become one of the most popular stations due to high density of industrial, commercial activities in the area. The station will serve residents of posh localities in Jumeirah and Al Safa.
