Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata will soon witness a five-star hotel in its proximity. India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has joined hands with Kolkata-based Shelter Group for the same and will be footing Rs 100 crore bill and three-acres land for the 220-rooms structure. The hotel will be situated near the Birati crossing, which is less than a kilometer away from the airport.
The project is the first undertaking of the Shelter Group, which will be imparted the brand name Ashok, along with the operational and management expertise from ITDC. The revenue for the same will be shared by both ITDC and Shelter Group. The Consultant Architect of the project, Anirban Bhaduri said that the hotel would lap a swimming pool and food court, with the beautiful interiors showcasing the folk culture of Bengal.
The five-star hotel project is supposed to commence from February 2010, with the high hopes held by both Shelter Group and ITDC. The project, on one side, will give an entry to the Shelter Group into the hospitality industry and on the other, will offer an opportunity to the ITDC to revive their business in the city, after the divested Airport Ashok.
