Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) that has introduced various initiatives in the state’s tourism sector like ‘Har Gaon Ki Kahani’, operation of deluxe tourist coaches along the Manali-Leh Highway among others recorded net profit of Rs 7.73 core in the first quarter of this finance year. According to a spokesperson for HPTDC, the gross profit up to end of June was Rs 8.38 and the corporation had registered net profit of Rs 4.79 crore in 2009-10.
The corporation that had started online bookings about 2 years ago has been witnessing a spurt in the booking and occupancy rates and has an accumulated debt of about Rs 24 crore on its books. HPTDC runs 59 luxury hotels and restaurants across the state and also runs 23 luxury and deluxe Volvo buses. It recorded gross profit of Rs 1.56 crore from Volvo bus services in last 3 months as a total of 36,200 tourists used its service.
HPTDC besides launching attractive schemes and offers, also enable persons travelling in HPTDC buses to be entitled to 10% discount in room rent for staying in HPTDC properties. However the offer is valid only on the buses plying on the Delhi-Shimla and Delhi-Manali routes.
