The Kovai (Coimbatore) - Mettupalayam special trains that usually runs in the month of June and July has now been extended till August 31st. The trains will run on all days except Sundays, since the service was to cater to the demand of commuters, traders and office goers and students, between these stations.
The Southern Railways have also announced that due to the work of commissioning of double line between Coimbatore North and Irugur stations, there would be a change in the pattern of train services on August 12, 15, 16, 18 and 19. Trains that are originating / terminating at Coimbatore will run via Coimbatore-Podanur-Irugur instead of Coimbatore-Pilamedu-Irugur during those days. Trains passing through Coimbatore will run via Podanur-Irugur link without touching Coimbatore. According to a Southern Railways release, these trains will have a stoppage at Podanur instead of Coimbatore.
Kovai, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu is filled with many tourism spots like Madhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary Kodaikanal, Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, and Thirumurthy Dam among others. Mettupalayam, a town in Coimbatore is renowned for interesting places like Shri Madheswara Temple, Black Thunder (water theme park) and Kotagiri road.
