In order to woo more number of tourists, Jammu and Kashmir’s major tourism spot, Yousmarg will now undergo a facelift and modernization work. Work is on to beautify an irrigation canal, build rain shelters and set up tourist huts to facilitate travellers.
"We have made some tourist huts, and we have provided sanitation facilities. We have also improved and developed an irrigation canal that passes through the area. There has been an overall modernization of the area. We have also made some more view points and spots," said Rafi Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Budgam District.
The beautification work is bound to increase the influx of tourists to Yousmarg that is not only a favourite haunt of Indian film makers but also among small children who frequently visit this place. About 80 percent of the population of the area is directly or indirectly dependent on the tourism trade.
Yousmarg, a small meadow located 50 kilometers away from Srinagar is well-known for having some unique spring flowers and also boasts of having some of the highest peaks in PirPanjal range like Tatakoti 4725 mtrs and Sunset Peak 4746 meters. The mighty river Doodh Ganga makes this destination even more exciting. For adventure lovers, the natural slopes of Yousmarg offer skiing opportunities.
