Himachal Pradesh in a bid to attract more number of visitors to its state has now decided to introduce houseboats on prominent lakes on the similar lines of Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal directed the authorities to explore possibilities of introducing house boats at various lakes in the state.
Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) also plans to announce a special package during the time of Commonwealth Games (CWG) to woo visitors. The state has already offered a week's free hospitality to all world record holder players who choose to visit the state during the CWG event.
Himachal Pradesh with its famous tourism destinations like Kullu, Manali, Rohtang Pass, Chamba Valley, Kangra Fort, Chamunda Devi Temple among others registered a total of 11,437,155 tourists, including 400,583 foreigners, last year. Kullu and Manali are the hotspots for tourists, followed by Shimla and Dharamsala.
The Corporation runs a chain of 57 hotels with 1051 rooms and a fleet of luxury buses to benefit travelers. HPTDC also provides various special offers including discount scheme for senior citizens, privilege card scheme, monsoon discount offer, special tribal packages, bonanza for honeymooners at Manali, family bonanza at Manali among others.
