The Golden Chariot, a luxury train run by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) that has recently added a new second itinerary called ‘Southern Splendour’ for its Season 3 is slated to be operational in October. The 7-night/ 8-day packaged tour from Bengaluru will cover destinations like Chennai, Mamallapuram, Pondicherry, Tiruchirapalli & Thanjavur, Madurai, Trivandrum , Poovar, Backwaters and Kochi, before terminating to Bengaluru again.
The first itinerary, ‘Pride of the South’ which is an 8 days/ 7 night’s tour covers destinations like Srirangapatnam, Mysore, Kabini, Shravanabelagola, Belur, Halebid Hampi, Badami, Aihole , Pattadakal and Goa. The luxury train that has been revamped both in terms of exterior and interior hopes to witness an increased occupancy by about 40%, this season.
The plush cabin coaches of the train are fully air-conditioned and each cabin is equipped with modern amenities like LCD television, DVD, wardrobe, writing desk and private bathroom with luxurious amenities and accessories. The train also has a gym coach, lounge bar, 2 restaurants and a spa.
“About 1,500 tourists experienced the Golden Chariot journey in the last two seasons. We are hopeful of increasing the occupancy by 40 per cent this year compared to the last season”, said Vinay Luthra, Managing Director, and KSTDC.
