A total of 15 jeeps and 7 motorcycles were donated by a tourism trade body, Goa to the state government to enable the patrolling of beaches and to safeguard tourists against crimes. The fleet was handed over by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) India initiative chairperson Arjun Sharma to Goa’s Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
“This is the first time in the history of tourism in the country that such a public-private initiative has been undertaken,” Arjun Sharma said.
The beach patrol functioned under the tourism ministry will safeguard the interest of the nearly 2 million tourists - both international and domestic - who visit the beach tourism destination.
