The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) in order to introduce mass rapid transit system in the city has decided to start air-conditioned long route buses from Chandigarh to the adjoining areas in 2 months time. Furthermore, 40 more vehicles would be added to the fleet of local air-conditioned buses.
"The facility would be of big convenience to city residents travelling to Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh on CTU buses," CTU director, ML Sharma said.
Currently, the occupancy rate of CTU buses in Chandigarh is 87% while outside Chandigarh, it is 63%. The transport department of Chandigarh will soon set up more bus queue shelters of unique designs, initially in the southern sectors of the state.
