Mumbai
is the Celluloid Capital of India and people from different parts of the
world come here to spend their holidays. The two airports of the city,
one domestic and one international, cater to the huge rush of tourists,
businessmen, students and aspiring actors. The international flights
coming to Mumbai operate out of the Chattrapati Shivaji International
Airport, while one can catch the domestic flights from the Santa Cruz
Domestic Airport. The Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport of
Bombay is counted amongst the major airports of India.
Presently, this airport is handling the traffic of upto 45 landings and
takeoffs per hour. After your plane lands at the airport, you will first
come across the immigration, baggage retrieval and customs areas,
followed by other services. Those who want to exchange their currency
can utilize the services available outside the customs area. However,
facilities like shops, a restaurant and a snack bar are available only
in the departure lounge of the airport, and not the arrival lounge.
Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport is situated at Sahar, which
lies to the east of Andheri. It is located at a distance of
approximately 35 km from the city center and comprises of two main
terminals. The first one is Terminal 2A, spread over an area of 41600 sq
m, while the other is Terminal 2C, with an area of 68895 sq m. Santa
Cruz Domestic Airport is in Santa Cruz, at a distance of around 25 km
from the heart of Mumbai. It also has two terminals - Terminal 1A
(spread over 28960 sq m) and Terminal 1B (with an area of 45000 sq m).
Facilities at the Airports
ATMs
ATMs are available at both the Chattrapati Shivaji International
Airport and the Santa Cruz Domestic Airport. The international airport
(Terminal 2A and 2C) has the ATMs of ICICI Bank and Canara Bank, while
the domestic airport (Terminal 1A) only has ICICI Bank ATM.
Wheelchair Facility
Wheelchair facility is available at the airports on request. You can
either book wheelchairs at the time of reserving your tickets or get one
directly at the airport. The domestic travelers can avail of this
facility free of charge, while the international travelers have to pay a
certain fee, which is charged by the airline.
Inter-terminal Coach Service
Inter-terminal coach service is provided to the transit passengers, to
enable them to move from one terminal to the other easily and quickly.
There are no charges for the coach service and it is provided throughout
the day, at an interval of 20 minutes.
Medical Facilities
The international terminals 2A and 2C as well as the domestic terminal
1B house a medical room. The rooms of 2A and 1B are manned by doctors
24x7, while that of 2C provides services only between 8pm and 8am. All
the medical rooms are well-equipped to handle emergency situations and
the services are provided free of cost.
Lost & Found
The unclaimed baggage is submitted by all the agencies of the airport
at the Airport Manager Office. Before depositing the goods, their
description, date of deposition and the depositor's signature are noted
down.
