Indira
Gandhi Indoor Stadium of Delhi is situated in the Indraprastha Estate in
the eastern part of the city. Built in the year 1982 to host the indoor
sports events of the Asiad Games, it is spread over an area of 102
acres. From the time Delhi Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium was constructed,
it has undergone numerous renovations and restorations. The stadium has
been divided two equal halves by a soundproof and fireproof synthetics
wall.
The facilities at the Indra Gandhi Indoor Stadium of New Delhi include
a fully air-conditioned main indoor arena with a seating capacity of
25,000 persons. Also, the stadium is well equipped with intricate audio
and lighting systems, making it adequate for colored television
transmission. One of the most recent feats of the stadium is that it has
been selected to host the Netball Competitions of Commonwealth Games
2010.
