There is a major airport in Uttarakhand while the other two assist it. Jolly Grant Airport, located in Dehradun is the main airport in the state of Uttarakhand. Two other air strips are the Chakrata Air Force Base near Dehradun and Pant Nagar Airport (Udhamsingh Nagar). Chakrata base is used mainly by the air force. Pant Nagar Airport allows domestic flight landings. Sometime back, the infrastructure at Jolly Grant Airport was very basic and only small aircrafts could be landed. But now after a major refurbishing and revamping it can easily handle the Airbus A320s, Boeing 737s and any other aircraft in the same category. Since the airport is very close to Rishikesh (a 20-mins drive), it is expected that the airport will improve connectivity and more tourists will gather at Rishikesh and Dehradun. The Jolly Grant runway is approximately 7,000 ft long and is adequate for landing and take-off of ATR-72 planes. Both Pant Nagar and Jolly Grant Airports and many other places will soon have helipads also.
