Kanatal is a small hamlet located in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttaranchal. It is situated at a distance of 300 kms from Delhi and is one of the most favored tourist spots in Uttarakhand. It is not over-crowded or highly urbanized like the most frequented hill stations of the state. The best time to visit Kanatal is between the months of December to February when the entire hill station is covered with white powdery snow and looks divine. Summer months are the best for those who want to avoid the freezing cold and indulge in extensive sight-seeing.Summers in Kanatal are pleasant and the temperature ranges between 10-25 degrees C. In winters the minimum temperature dips as low as minus 5 and the maximum temperature is around 18 degrees C. It can get freezing cold in the winter season. The months from December to February experience heavy snowfall. The average annual rainfall in Kanatal is around 70 cms, although, it keeps fluctuating. From April to September, the weather is absolutely delightful when it's neither too cold, nor very hot.
