The
voltage & current supply in Tamilnadu is the same as in other parts
of India but different from most parts of the world. Electricity in
Tamilnadu is 240 Volts, which alternates at 50 cycles per second. If you
are carrying a device that does not accept 240 volts at 50 hertz, you
will have to carry a voltage converter. As these kinds of devices are
easily available locally, there is no need to bring them with you. There
are basically three types of voltage converters that are available and
adaptable to the Indian voltage.
Resistor-network converters: 50-1600 Watts
These converters can be used for appliances like hair dryers and irons.
Transformers: 50-100 Watts
These types of transformers can be used continuously for items like
laptops, battery chargers, cameras, radios, camcorders and MP3 players.
Combination converters
Combination converters have a combination voltage of resistor network
and transformers. You can switch from one mode to another by a switch,
which is provided for the same purpose.
