Baneshwar
Located 60 km from Dungarpur, Baneshwar is mainly famous for a temple
with one of the most revered Shivalinga. The temple is situated at the
convergence of the Som and Mahi rivers. A renowned Vishnu temple is also
sited near the Shiva temple. The temple is believed to be built on the
spot where Mavji, an incarnation of Lord Krishna, meditated. A Brahma
temple is also located nearby. The temple, reaching up to two stories,
has elegantly carved pillars and gateways.
Deo Somnath
Deo Somnath, 24 km to the north east of Dungarpur, is a temple
dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in white stone on the banks of the river
Som, the temple dates back to the 12th century. The temple is adorned
with daunting towers and has several inscriptions written inside it.
Galiyakot
Galiyakot is a tiny village situated on the banks of the river Mahi.
The village, 58 km to the south east of Dungarpur, once served as the
capital of Parmars and that of the former Dungarpur state. The main
attraction of Galiyakot is the glorious shrine of Syed Fakhruddin, a
Muslim Bohra saint. The shrine gains special significance at the time of
Urs, a Muslim festival. While on a trip to this village, you can also
visit the Jain temples situated nearby.
Baroda
A former capital of Vagad, Baroda lies 41 km from Dungarpur. This
village is renowned for some beautiful temples of Rajput architecture.
The most remarkable ones include the ancient Shiva temple in white
stone, along with an old Jain temple, dedicated mainly to Parshvanath.
The temple is adorned with elegantly carved image of the 24 Jain
tirthankaras on its black wall.
Bhuvaneshwar
Bhuvaneshwar, a temple of Lord Shiva, is situated 9 km from Dungarpur.
A fair is organized here on the fifth day after Holi, with the focal
point being the Gair dance by Bhil tribals.
Poonjpur
Poonjpur is situated 37 km from Dungarpur. It is renowned for an
exquisite temple dedicated to Mavji. The temple houses an idol of
Nishkalank riding a horse, along with the manuscript of Chopra, a book
written by Mavji.
Boreshwar
The temple of Boreshwar Mahadeo, dating back to 1179 AD, is situated 83
km from Dungarpur.
