Menal
Located on the Bundi-Chittaur road, Menal lies approximately 90 km from
Chittorgarh. Surrounded with natural beauty, Menal is known for its
ancient Shiva temples, beautiful waterfalls and thick forests.
Sita Mata Sanctuary, Dhariyavad
Sita Mata sanctuary is situated in Dhariyavad, near Chittorgarh. Three
rivers flow through the sanctuary forest. It is believed that Sita, the
wife of Lord Rama, stayed in Rishi Valmiki's ashram in this forest,
after Lord Rama separated her from himself. You can easily spot Flying
squirrels, Leopards, four-horned Antelopes, Wild bears, Porcupines,
Sambhars, Foxes, Nilgai, Hyenas, etc here.
Nagari
Nagari is situated 20 km from Ranthambore. One of the oldest towns of
Rajasthan, it dates back to the Maurya and Gupta period.
Deogarh
Fort
Deogarh Fort dates back to 16th century and is situated 125 km from
Chittorgarh. Five stories high, the fort has over two hundred rooms and
numerous carved pillars. Marble has been used extensively in its
construction, giving it a magnificent look. Adorning the rooms are
striking murals in the Deogarh school of painting style.
Bassi
Lying 25 km from Chittorgarh, Bassi is famous for its sculptures and
woodcraft. It falls on the way to Bundi. There is also a Bassi Wildlife
Sanctuary spread over 50 sq. km. It has a rich wildlife consisting of
antelopes, wild boars, panthers, mongoose, etc, along with some
exquisite migratory birds. It also houses some historical forts,
temples, kunds, etc.
Bijalpur
Bijalpur lies 40 km from Chittorgarh. It houses a magnificent castle
constructed by Rao Shakti Singh, Maharana Pratap's younger brother. At
present, the castle has been turned into a heritage hotel.
