Orissa is one of the states in India that abound in
Buddhist sites and monuments. Right from the ancient rock edicts to the
exquisitely carved stupas to the splendid Buddhist monasteries and
temples, the state has it all. However, it was under the reign of
Emperor Ashoka that Orissa became one of the major centers of Buddhism
in the country. If you are planning to go on a tour of Orissa, make sure
to visit all the major Buddhist pilgrim destinations in the state, such
as Dhauli Hill, Lalitagiri, Udaigiri, etc.
