The main runway at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is expected to be closed for a few hours every day for repair. The airport that operates 2 runways will undergo upgradation that is likely to start in the month of October. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is yet to take a decision on when to begin recarpeting work of the main runway 0927.
DGCA will also decide the number of hours the main runway will be closed for operations once work starts. Though a final decision is yet to be taken, the plan involves making the runway code F compliant, which means it would be able to handle A380-type jumbo aircraft for regular operations.
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport formerly known as Sahar International Airport is Mumbai’s main airport and handles 32-34 aircraft movements per hour. The airport is equipped with all kinds of facilities like Inter-terminal transfer service, Food & Beverage , ATM facilities, medical services, unaccompanied minors , left luggage / baggage storage facility, wheel-chairs for physically challenged and many others.
