The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ashok Chavan who was addressing the delegates at the recently held Hotel and Restaurant Association Western India (HRAWI) Finale (Diamond Jubilee Celebration of HRAWI) at Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai, declared 2011-12 as the year of ‘Tourism for Maharashtra’ starting from January 2011. Chavan also urged the hoteliers to meet him by the first fortnight of September to discuss on layout plans, new initiatives and implementation of initiatives in order to explore the tourism in Maharashtra and to make the coming year, a successful one for the tourism.
“Areas like Medical Tourism, Eco Tourism, Forest Tourism, Coastal Tourism, Pilgrimage Tourism, Fort Tourism are still to be exploited completely in the state. Maharashtra has rich culture, ample scope and huge potential in these segments and hence the Ministry and the association need to work amicably and mutually to attract more tourists to the state. It is paramount to bring the tourism sector of Maharashtra in the map of India,” said Ashok Chavan.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) that actively promotes its state had recently launched a special tour ‘Asa Ha Maharashtra’ in collaboration with Pune-based ‘Offbeat Destinations’ to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Maharashtra.
