Gujarat Tourism is currently studying the draft of the new Tourism Policy submitted by Tourism Finance Corporation of India (TFCI). The new Tourism Policy is expected to address major issues related to the growth of tourism in the state like taxation, prohibition, fiscal incentives, land banking and many more.
Vipul Mittra, Secretary Tourism, Gujarat Mittra said that the new Tourism Policy might consider permitting hotels at select tourist destinations, especially beach resorts, to serve liquor to guests. The Rann of Kutch desert will be developed as an active Rural Tourism destination and many resorts will be established to attract the tourists.
“The state tourism is offering subsidies, manpower training and marketing assistance to these projects. One such resort has already become operational in the Rann,” added Mittra.
The Gujarat state tourism department is also looking at cruise tourism and has plans to set up cruise ship landing facilities at major ports.
