Gujarat has added yet another feather to its tourism cap by holding first ever tourism conclave in its state organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of Gujarat in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The conclave attended by many leaders of the travel and hospitality sectors highlighted the focused attention of the state government to firmly place Gujarat on the tourism map of India in the next 3 years.
Vipul Mittra, Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Gujarat said, "This platform will advise the government on future strategies. Tourists come to Gujarat from various states. We have a diverse tourism menu. The year 2006 was the 'Tourism Year' and the many festivities led to increased tourist arrivals in the state."
Gujarat government is undertaking a wide range of initiatives and tourism projects to develop the state as a major tourism hub. Some of the notable projects include the Dwarka Project, The Dandi project among others. Further, 97 MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) have been signed with 156 projects coming up, out of which 60 per cent are at the implementation stage. 50 projects have already been given to the Gujarat Tourism Project Development Company Limited (GTPDCL) a Joint Venture (JV) between Government of Gujarat and IL&FS (Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited).
