Etihad Airways, the national airline of UAE has expanded its Iraq network by launching a new service to the northern city of Erbil following the successful launch of a service to Baghdad in April.
Eithad Airways has become the first UAE carrier to operate both Northern Iraq and Baghdad. The carrier currently operates 5 return services per week to Baghdad, using Airbus A320 aircraft, and has 2 return services to a second Iraq destination- Erbil with two-class airbus A320 aircraft.
James Hogan, Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, said “Iraq is a key market for Etihad and will be an important focus for the airline in 2010. We believe the new route will attract leisure travellers from Iraq who are looking for short breaks within the Gulf region, as well as business customers, friends and relatives travelling between the UAE and Erbil. The response to our services to Iraq has been overwhelmingly positive and we are expecting a high volume of traffic on this new route.”
