Delhi Government To Launch 15, 000 Radio Taxis
The countdown for the much- anticipated Common wealth games 2010 has begun and the Delhi government in a bid to provide a safe transport mode to people and tourists during this event, is planning to launch around 15,000 radio taxis before the Commonwealth Games (CWG) begins on October 3. The radio cabs that will be fully operational before the CWG starts will be fully equipped with facilities like Global Positioning System (GPS) and printers so that the vehicles can be monitored continuously and the customers can get automatic billing.
The taxi service will be available round the clock in the NCR (National Capital Region) region and Delhi. The charge is Rs 15 per km. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, Delhi who recently recently flagged off a new radio taxi service ‘YO Cabs’ said “We are launching our operations with a fleet of 100 cars,”.
The Delhi Government is encouraging people to travel in Transport Corporation buses and radio cabs instead of using personal vehicles.
