Bihar’s famous city, Rajgir will soon get a new hi-tech aerial ropeway as the state cabinet has now approved Rs 10.84-crore proposal to replace the existing chair-lift aerial ropeway. According to an official, the new ropeway which would run parallel to the existing one would be accorded the heritage status and the existing ropeway would remain functional till the commissioning of the new one which would be a mono cable detachable ropeway.
While the existing ropeway enables just one person to sit on one of the chairs, the new ropeway, once operational would have cabins each of which can accommodate several persons. "Visitors can enjoy the ride along with their family or friends in the cabin,'' said Navin Kumar, a senior BSTDC official.
The new ropeway to be built by RITES Limited (A Govt. of India Enterprise) - Gurgaon by 2012 had previously built a similar mono cable detachable ropeway at Namchi in Sikkim and another one at Deoghar in Jharkhand.
