The International Air Transport Association (IATA) in order to simplify the baggage rules will be providing a central database for interline baggage rules, enabling airlines, travel agents and passengers to know what baggage rules will apply for any given itinerary. Automated Carrier Baggage Rules (ACBR) is the latest project in IATA’s ‘Simplifying the Business programme’ whose mission is to change the way the air transport industry operates.
IATA will partner with the Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCO), to host the central database. By connecting to the new database through existing reservations and ticketing systems, travel agents and airlines will enable passengers to receive baggage fee and allowance information at the time of booking.
