AirAsia, the non-local airline monitored by Malaysian and international regulators, has added three new cities of India in its air map. The cities include Kochi, Kolkata and Trivandrum and the flights for the same were launched in Kolkata on November 20, 2009. There will be daily flights plying from Kochi and Kolkata and 2 to 5 flights in a week from Trivandrum.
Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes, CEO - AirAsia, watched the launch via video conference at the AirAsia office in the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal. In the press conference after the launch, Fernandes announced three more flights to India from April next year - to Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, which will be connected to Kuala Lumpur. There will be an extra flight to Chennai from Penang and also flights to Mumbai and Delhi towards the end of the year.
Fernandes looks forward to launch flights from Bangkok to Delhi, Kolkata and Amritsar as well. He further informed that AirAsia operates in a market of 2.5 billion people today and has a clear focus to hit Indian middle class families by offering them excellent services. AirAsia’s first step in India was taken last year, at Tiruchirappalli and the airline has quickened its pace since then.
