AAI Reports Good Revenue From Commercial Activities At Airports
According to the information revealed by Indian Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, the airports of key Indian cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Cochin have witnessed a jump in revenue from commercial activities. While the Airports Authority of India (AAI) garnered a revenue of Rs 837.03 crore in 2009-10; the revenue for Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) was Rs 28.4 crore and Rs 138 crore respectively.
Patel said: “Section 12 of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Act, 1994 defines the functions of AAI which includes establishing commercial activities at the airports and the Civil Enclaves in the best commercial interest of the Authority. Commercial potential of the space available at the airport depends upon the location, size, traffic and nature of passengers travelling from and to each airport”.
AAI that works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and manages all the airports of India currently operates 126 airports including 12 international airports, 89 domestic airports and 26 civil enclaves. The airport authority of India aims to transform all the airports in India into world-class facilities, to meet the future needs of travelers and aircraft alike.
