Shopping in Lumbini

Lumbini is a hub of Buddhist paraphernalia and handicrafts. Wherever you venture out in the city, you will find some or other shop selling the Buddhist paraphernalia. Lots of trinkets and religious paraphernalia are for sale near the entrance to the Maya Devi complex, including Buddha snow globes and stickers. Various kinds of prayer beads and prayer wheels are also for sale here. Pick the Tibetan one. A couple of shops in the village near the bus stop stock more of the same plus couple of other items too.

The place is also famous for Nepalese and Indian handicrafts items. You can buy Pashmina items including shawls and wrap-around. Traditional Newar items such as pottery and clothes are also for sale. Apart from that you have Patan style copper and bronze statues that are very much in demand in Europe. There are separate galleries of various Buddhist countries that are maintained by the monasteries run by the respective countries. The ones maintained by China and Tibet autonomous region are the best in terms of quality of products. Due to its proximity to India, Indian handicrafts are also available for sale.
