Hiking in NepalSituated
in the lap of Himalayas, Nepal has over 1300 peaks that are between 5500
meters (18,090 ft) and 8848m (29,028ft) above sea level. This makes
Nepal, a paradise for peak climbers and hikers. Scaling these peaks is a
lifetime experience. Once you scale these peaks, the ones at Ural and
Mount Olympus looks like mere hillocks. The sheer joy of standing at the
highest points on the earth is unimaginable. And that is what hiking in
Nepal is all about. Ever since the country opened its peaks to climbers
in 1994, the Nepal Himalayan has become a great theatre of
mountaineering activity. The sheer drama of success and failure have
provided impetus to thousands of men and women to meet the ultimate
challenge
There are government agencies that have rights to issue permits and passes. Since 1978, the Nepal Mountaineering Association popularly called NMA has had the authority to issue climbing permits for peaks. Though, if you opt for good agencies then the paper work is not a headache. Hiking is a very dangerous activity. Therefore NMA has strict guidelines for the agencies operating in Nepal. |
