Sanchi is a small village, located 46 km north east
of Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh. A group of Buddhist monuments crown the
hilltop of Sanchi, commanding a striking view even from a great

Summer
Summers are generally hot and sultry. The season lasts for almost four
months - March, April, May and June. During the days, temperature
ascends to a maximum of 45oC and the heat can be really
searing at times. The minimum temperature during summers generally
remains somewhere around 25oC. Generally, light cottons,
especially clothes made from natural fibers, are preferable during this
season.
Winter
Winters lasts from November to February. The temperature may drop down
to as low as 10oC during night. However, during daytime, the
weather remains pleasant with a maximum temperature of 22.5oC.
Still, a trip to Sanchi is preferable during the winters as compared to
the summer months. In November, the festivities associated with the
Chethiyagiri Vihara' are worth-watching. Light woolens for daywear and
heavy woolens for night are preferable in this season.
Monsoon
The monsoon season lasts from mid June to mid September. The place
experiences mild drizzle to heavy monsoon downpour, typical of monsoons
in Madhya Pradesh. One planning a trip to Sanchi should visit it during
this season, to savor its actual seasonal beauty. The clouds play with
different hues and the landscape is cloaked in varying shades of green.
Sometimes, torrential rains might mar the vacationing delight. So, the
safest and the best season to visit the place is anytime between the
months of october and March.
