The climate of Madhya Pradesh can be termed as
monsoonal. Seasonal variations occur mainly in the form of three
distinct seasons - summers, winters and monsoons. Therefore, the climate
and weather largely determine the kind of clothing you need to carry on
your visitation to the place. Moreover, particular cities of the state
also affect the answer to 'what clothes to wear in Madhya Pradesh', as
different cities of the state experiences differences in weather to
certain extent.
In case, you are Madhya Pradesh-bound during summers (March, April &
May); remember that the mercury level soars to more than 29oc
in almost all the places of the state. The temperature even exceeds 40oC
in cities like Gwalior, Bhopal, Indore and Khajuraho. Therefore, it is
advisable that you carry light cotton clothing and clothes made of
natural fabrics with you. Synthetic clothes and clingy fabrics
preferably to be avoided. Go for loose and airy clothes that regulate
airflow in the body. Opt for clothes in lighter shades and avoid loud
colors.
Monsoon season in the state stretches for a long period and generally
lasts from June to october. If you happen to visit the state during this
season of showers, i.e. in monsoons, remember that most of the cities
here experience high levels of humidity apart from the frequent spells
of monsoon rain. Therefore, it is recommended that you take loose and
breathable fabrics, instead of tight-fitting clothes. At the same time,
carry waterproof clothing that comes quite handy while taking monsoon
strolls.
Winters are very pleasant and favorable from the vacationing point of
view. In fact, it is the best season to visit the state. It lasts from
November to February and the place beckons many tourists during this
period. Winters can be moderate to quite severe in Madhya Pradesh. So,
while on a trip to the state during winters, loads of woolen clothes
(both light & heavy) will provide the answer to 'how to dress up'.
Shawls, pullovers, jackets, overcoats, skullcaps, mittens, mufflers and
inner thermal wear are basic clothing that the season calls for.
Now, apart from the seasonal demands on clothing, certain other things
are to be considered while dressing up in the state. Even though, you
can easily stick to western wear and other contemporary clothes in the
place, carrying a few pair of ethnic or Indian dresses (like saris and
salwar kameez) is advisable. Since, Madhya Pradesh is a melting pot of
various religions; many religious places of the state merit visitation
on your trip. Make sure that you dress conservatively while visiting
these religious places, located across the state.
