Bilaspur,
the place of streams, verdant valleys and rivulets, is a popular tourist
destination in Himachal Pradesh. At the city, the echoes of the past
mingle with the tomorrow. The town lies on the bank of the Gobindsagar
Lake, emanating from the Bhakra Dam. Situated 64-km from Kiratpur, on
the Chandigarh-Manali N H No-21, it is visited by many tourists round
the year. During summer months, temperature can reach upto 37 degree
Celsius and during winters, it can go down to chilly levels. The best
season to visit the place is December and January, when weather is
pleasant and attractive.
Summer
The summer season in Bilaspur is invariably hot, with the maximum
temperature rising to as high as 37 deg C, at some places. However, the
temperature may easily drop after a summer shower that comes accompanied
with a display of thunder and lightning. During summers, wearing cotton
clothes is recommended.
Winter
For about three months in winter, a thick mist surrounds the Satluj.
Winter starts around October and reach a peak in December-January, when
the weather can become really chilly. During this, it is advisable that
you carry heavy woolens to the place.
Monsoon
Major rainfall, which is around seventy percent of the annual, happens
in the months of June, July and August. Average rainfall is around 62
mm. During the months of July and August, high humidity is experienced.
So, you are advised to carry loose, cotton clothes with you.
