The
Dabolim airport acts as the solitary hub for air travel in Goa. Located
4 km from the Vasco da Gama city and 29 km from state capital Panaji,
the Dabolim airport is a dual function airport used for both civil and
military aviation purposes. As such the Dabolim airport is in the joint
custody of the Indian Navy and the Airport Authority of India.
Due to Goa's prominence as a tourist hub, the Dabolim airport is well
connected to most of the major cities of India. Indian Airlines, Jet
Airways, Air Sahara and Kingfisher Airlines are the airlines operating
regular flights to other Indian cities. Besides the domestic services,
international flights are operated by state carriers Indian and Indian
Airlines to the Persian Gulf region.
International charter flights to Dabolim are the preferred mode of
travel for a large number of foreign tourists coming to Goa. Charter
flights are available to and from UK and European destinations and
Russia. Most of the charter flights operate on weekends when there is no
flight restriction due to training of naval aircrafts.
