Tipping is a unique custom, which is practiced in majority of the countries around the world, failure of which question a person’s ethics and etiquettes. Some countries have even developed standards regarding the amount and percentage of tipping. Tips for Assam Tipping
It is not a custom in Assam to pay the taxi or rickshaw driver anything over and above the meter readings. If you want to do so, it is solely at your own discretion.
In majority of the hotels, it is customary to tip 10-15% of your bill to the attending waiter. However, this depends on the type of restaurant that you are visiting. In 5-star hotels, you are expected to pay anything between 50-100 rupees, whereas in the roadside dhabas, a mere 10 to 20 rupees is sufficient.
In case, during your trip, you are staying over in someone’s house, it may not be a bad idea to tip the domestic maid or servant. However, this should be done with the knowledge and approval of the host.
During the conducted tours to the different shrines and sanctuaries of Assam, do not forget to tip the hired guides .The tip should, however, be in accordance with the level of service provided.
