Sri Lanka will be hosting the prestigious 11th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo from 2nd of July the 4th of July. Achala Jagoda, Sri Lanka Tourism Minister, said that it was an international achievement for his country and added that several countries had competed to host the event, but finally Sri Lanka got the opportunity to host it.
Film industry veteran Amitabh Bachchan on the 20th April, announced that an annual road show of the Indian film industry will be held in Sri Lanka. “As a member of the film industry I look forward to another luminous decade, as IIFA journeys forth, sharing the Indian cinematic movements with the world,” Bachchan told a news conference in Colombo. The IIFA event will also include programs like business forum, fashion show and a cricket match by Indian and Sri Lanka movie and cricket stars. The Sri Lanka Tourism Ministry considers that the event will promote the island’s tourism industry in a great way.
The IIFA awards are presented every year by the International Indian film Academy to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in Bollywood, the Hindi film industry. The IIFA awards which was instituted in the year 2000, was held in Macau last year.
