Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district has got a Tourist Information Center (TIC) that will now provide information and assistance to the tourists, both domestic and international. The centre was officially inaugurated by the Minister in charge of Education and Tourism, Ampareen Lyngdoh at Umlyngkdait, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District on July 22nd.
The Centre is the first entry point which will serve as an introduction to the tourist destinations in the State. The TIC will also provide tourists with information on vital features of the State, landmarks and sites, besides general information which includes food and lodging and transportation.
Ri-Bhoi, an administrative district in the state of Meghalaya has its district headquarters located at Nongpoh located at 53 km away from the state capital Shillong and 50 km from Guwahati. Ri-bhoi includes a series of hill ranges and the important rivers flowing through this region includes the Umtrew, Umsiang, Umran and Umiam rivers. The youngest district boasts of tourist places like Umiam Lake that offers water sports facilities including sailing, water skiing and water scooter, Lum Nehru Park and Dwar Ksuid which is popularly known as the ‘Lover Paradise’.
