Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory authority, under the Ministry of Railways, is looking forward to set up multi-functional complexes (MFC) at railway stations and for this purpose it has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) for development/leasing of spaces of MFC at stations in India. The MFCs to be developed at 93 railways stations will be equipped with rail users’ facilities like shopping, food stalls, restaurants, budget hotels and other similar amenities. The developer will design, financé, construct, operate, market and maintain the MFCs that will be developed on identified railway plots.
At present, the location and plot sizes are being identified. The plot will be mainly located near the station building around the circulating area for easy access by rail users.
According to a release by Ministry of Railways, corporates, hotel operators, retailers, fast food outlets, banks and developers will be able to apply. RLDA will soon organize an interactive meeting at 4 metro cities with the parties who submit their proposals in response to this EoI and invite selected parties for presenting their proposals.
RLDA set-up by an Amendment to the Railways Act, 1989, develops the vacant railway land for commercial use to garner revenue by non-tariff measures.
